ArtsQuest Foundation / Linny Awards
Event Date: November 10, 2017
The ArtsQuest Foundation was founded in 2002 for the purpose of providing a vehicle for donors to offer long term support of ArtsQuest and the hundreds of arts, culture and education programs that ArtsQuest offers in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and the surrounding Greater Lehigh Valley region.
The ArtsQuest Foundation was inaugurated with a generous gift from Marlene O. “Linny” Fowler, an artist and philanthropist who was the co-founder of ArtsQuest’s Banana Factory Arts Center. Mrs. Fowler’s endowment gift provides a permanent source of operating support for the arts center, which, in her spirit, offers scholarships for its arts classes, camps and workshops to any adult or student who can not afford the tuition. Mrs. Fowler served on the Foundation Board of Trustees from 2002 until her passing in 2013.
For more than a quarter-century, Marlene ‘Linny’ Fowler of Bethlehem worked tirelessly to elevate the Lehigh Valley’s arts organizations and artists through her volunteerism and her support. Now, the region has the opportunity to celebrate this flourishing arts community and honor Fowler’s memory by taking part in the Linny Awards, the multi-discipline arts awards program focused on the greater Lehigh Valley’s artists, innovators and arts leaders.
The Linny Awards are open to individuals and businesses living or working in Lehigh, Northampton, upper Bucks and upper Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania, as well as Warren County in New Jersey.
All Linny Award winners were honored during the 2nd-annual Linny Awards Nov. 9, 2017 at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. Quadrant Private Wealth was very excited to sponsor the Student Artist Scholarship Award. This year’s award winner was Bria Pickel. Pickel, a 2017 graduate of the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, is described as “standing out in a school of exceptional students.” Her work is a mix of oil, watercolor, pencil and collage, with a focus on the repetitive patterns in line and shape within the subject matter. Pickel is studying painting and fine arts, and museum and gallery practices, at Pratt Institute in New York, starting in the fall of 2017. You can see some of her work below…
